at Aanandam, Mansarovar Colony, Near BSNL Exchange Office, Vaishali Nagar, Ajmer 305004
Previously Organised at Indoor Stadium Ajmer
For the Bengali community, Durga Puja is the most significant festival, celebrated with great
devotion and enthusiasm. In Ajmer, the Geetanjali Welfare Society has been organizing traditional Durga Puja
celebrations for the past 4 decades. The festivities used to take place at the Indoor Stadium, where the community
gathered to honor the goddess. The place has now changed to Vaishali Nagar.
Key Highlights:
- The festival begins with the installation of the goddess and continues for nine days with
special puja and rituals. The Mangal Kalash Yatra is a vibrant
procession where women carry sacred pots on their heads, accompanied by chanting and music.
- Each day, special puja and aarti are performed, creating a spiritual atmosphere. The rituals
are conducted with great reverence, following traditional practices.
- The evenings are filled with cultural activities, including live tableaux depicting mythological
stories and Garba dances performed by women and girls. These performances add a
festive and joyous element to the celebrations.
- On Vijayadashami, the goddess is adorned with sindoor (vermilion) and offered sweets before
her farewell. This day is marked by special rituals and community gatherings. Women apply sindoor
to the goddess and then to each other, seeking blessings for marital bliss. This ritual is a
significant part of the celebration, symbolizing the community’s unity and devotion.
The Bengali community in Ajmer follows all the traditional rituals and customs of Durga Puja as
practiced in West Bengal. This dedication to tradition attracts people from nearby cities like Jaipur,
who come to participate in the festivities. The enthusiasm and mutual love among the community
members are the festival’s most remarkable features.
The organization of the festival sees significant involvement from women, who play a crucial role in the celebrations.
The elders of the community, like Vibhuti Dutta, share that the
Durga Puja festival has been a cornerstone of their cultural heritage in
Ajmer many years. The nine days of worship and the grand farewell on
Vijayadashami highlight the deep-rooted traditions and the vibrant spirit of the
Bengali community in Ajmer.
